Tom Mertl, Assistant District Governor - RC of Clayton County    

                     Introduction by President Elect Michelle Boyd

Tom is originally from Clarksville, Indiana and came to Georgia in 1978.

Tom studied architectural design at the University of Cincinnati and he designs recreation equipment for Leisure Lines Playground & Recreation Equipment Co. He has been vice president since its inception in 1981.

He was the chairman of the Clayton County Cancer Unit and has been designated a life time member of the board.

Tom was appointed to the Clayton County Department of Family and Children’s Services Board and served as its Chair for the last 21 years.

Tom has been a member of the Rotary Club of Clayton County since 2003, serving as its president in 2007-08. He has served in many capacities including director of club administration and foundation. He received the coveted Rotarian of the Year award in 2012. He is a Major Donor, a Paul Harris Fellow and a Bequest Society member.

Tom is married to PDG Claudia and has one daughter, Melanie, a son-in-law, Ryan, and two grandsons, Mason and Rylen.  

He is active as a member of First Baptist Jonesboro where he has played in the orchestra for over ten years.
